Toshiba Group Holds 20th Environmental Exhibition

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it will hold the 20th Environmental Exhibition for the general public at the company's Tokyo headquarters on January 27 and 28, presenting Toshiba Group's latest environmentally conscious products and environmental initiatives.

The highlight of this year's exhibition is Toshiba Group's approach to conservation of biodiversity. Assessment of impacts on biodiversity using the life-cycle impact assessment method based on endpoint modeling (LIME) method1 will be introduced by referring to specific products and services as examples. Wastewater management based on Whole Effluent Toxicity2 (WET) and operation of biotopes at factories will also be introduced. In addition, Toshiba will introduce the results of "assessment of biodiversity potentials," quantitative evaluation of the potential contribution of Toshiba Group's major sites to establishment of local biodiversity networks (green corridors) through land use.

The exhibition of business activities, products and technologies will be organized based on the concept of the three "Greens" toward realization of Toshiba Group Environmental Vision 2050: Greening of Process, Greening of Products, and Greening by Technology. Greening of Process refers to initiatives to minimize environmental impacts of manufacturing processes. Through Greening of Products, Toshiba Group aims to achieve industry-leading environmental performance for its products. Greening by Technology is a drive to spur progress of environmental technologies through, for example, development of highly efficient energy supply equipment.

By expanding business globally while taking regional characteristics into consideration, Toshiba is making a concerted effort to become one of the world's foremost eco-companies—an enterprise achieving both sustained growth with steadily higher profit and reduced environmental impacts. In these endeavors, we will take every opportunity to publicize Toshiba Group's environmental management.

Note:
1. Life cycle impact assessment method based on endpoint modeling, LIME for short, was developed by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology through an LCA project. LIME incorporates assessment of biodiversity in evaluation of environmental impacts.
2. Whole Effluent Toxicity, WET for short, is a wastewater management technique using bioassay.
